We have had a wide range of weather this month; from record-setting heat to pouring rain and even some snow thrown into the mix. This has caused our garden to thrive and grow faster and early than normal but it has also caused some concern for plant health especially due to the snow fall. We were able to cover the plants before the second snowfall of the month but the first one caught us completely off guard and so we were not able to protect our plants.
Here is an overall look at how our garden currently looks.
In our first bed our potato plants have all sprouted. Last week we picked up our tomato plants and a few days later I planted them in the garden. In our second bed many of the pea seeds that I replanted at the beginning of the month are now sprouting.
As are the green onions and the kale plants. I replanted the swiss chard last week as none of it had sprouted yet.
It looks like we will be harvesting strawberries much earlier than last year and all of us can not wait!
In our last bed only two rows of beets and carrots came up so I replanted the other rows last week.
I finally got around to planting herbs and chilies last week.
We cut back on the number of tomato plants we are growing this year from 6 to 4. Two are in the garden bed and the other two varieties are ones that specifically do well in containers. One of the plants is already flowering! There you go… a peek at what our garden is currently looking like.
