When I saw the BellyFit Jacket Extender on Dragons Den last fall I instantly thought “What a smart idea!”. I have shared my frustration on here before with trying to find a jacket to wear in the winter time while pregnant. I usually end up buying jackets that are too big but they really don’t solve the problem. The cold air still comes in around the neckline, the sleeves are too long and until my baby bump was quite large the jacket would just look funny on me. I wish I had heard of this product much sooner!
Since my tummy is just starting to pop with this pregnancy I passed this insert on to my friend Nikki who is due in April to give it a try. After 2 months of use here is her review:
At first the extender was a little hard to figure out how to get it attached to the jacket but once we (Hubby & I) figured out that we had the warm layer on backwards it was no problem after that. I like that I was able to button up the extender when my belly wasn’t as big. The one thing I don’t like is the top piece of the extender when it’s fully zipped up covers up my chin. -Nikki
The BellyFit Jacket Extender currently retails for $68 Canadian with warmth layer being $18. If you need an adapter they are $6. While it is an investment it is definitely cheaper than buying a maternity jacket and if you live in a colder climate I’m sure you will get lots of use out of it. Even more so if you plan to be pregnant multiple times.I have another month or two before I will start to use the insert myself. I like that the insert has the option of a warmth layer so you can wear it in a variety of temperatures. Also, how the snaps on it allow for a custom fit. The adapters allow for it to be used with different jackets as well.
The bonus with this insert though is that once you have given birth you can continue to use the insert for baby wearing!
Below are some pictures of my husband and I trying to baby wear in the cooler temperatures over the last 8 years. Some of them are comical like trying to squeeze baby inside my winter coat while others obviously are not keeping hubby or myself very warm! I am definitely excited to try this insert out this fall after the birth of our 5th child. Be sure to check back for a follow-up review!
Have you tried the insert?
