Something From Nothing by Phoebe Gilman is a book about family, reducing our waste and life cycles. In this book Joesph’s grandfather makes him a wonderful blanket when he is a baby. As Joseph grows his grandfather continues to change and adapt what is left of the blanket for him. Despite others telling him there is nothing left and to throw it away his grandfather always comes through. Eventually, when there really is nothing left Joseph is still able to come up with something! Not only is the story in this book a beautiful one the illustrations are wonderfully done. The pictures are fun and engaging with lots of small details to see. This book is a great one for children about 3 to 7 years old.
Let’s Rock! Science Adventures with Rudie the Origami Dinosaur by Eric Braun. This book is an awesome one for school aged children. The book itself teaches children about different types of rock with the help of Rudie the origami dinosaur. I love that this book is educational but also that it is fun. It has a glossary of terms in the back and-and a ‘read more’ section that lists 3 books children can look for in order to learn more about rocks. At the very back of the book there is also a section teaching children how to make an origami T. Rex! My kids loved this book and had fun adding finishing touches to their dinos.
This is just one book in a series of 8 and my kids are anxious to read some of the other ones!
Have you read either of these books?
