There is more to cloth diapering than just the diapers- there are the accessories. Below are the ones we have and use almost every day.
Bummis Tote Bag– This is the bag we toss our used diapers into. When it’s time to wash the diapers the bag goes in the wash with them. We have the extra large size and have been using it for over two years now. The bag has held up amazingly well considering it gets washed every other day. It is showing some signs of wear but is still waterproof and without any tears or holes in it. I recommend to new parents that they buy two of these just for convenience sake but you can make do with just one.
Planet Wise Wet Bag– This is the wet bag we keep in our diaper bag for when we’re out. I purchased it about 3 months ago and so far it is holding up great. The store I bought it from said it would hold 2 to 3 diapers but I’ve found that getting two small sized ones in there can be tough. The bag seems well made and is definitely fashionable and cute!
Mini Shower Diaper Sprayer– This is one of those products that I wonder why we didn’t buy one sooner. We were cloth diapering almost two years before we decided that it would be worth buying a sprayer and it truly is worth it. It takes some time getting the technique down so everything goes in the toilet and doesn’t splash back on you (true story) but it’s worth the $60 or so dollars that it costs.
Wonder Wash– The detergent you use and your wash routine is an important part of cloth diapering. We used Wonder Wash laundry detergent for the first two years we cloth diapered. We used 1/2 to a full scoop depending on how many diapers we were washing. This detergent got the diapers clean and for the most part worked well. After some time there did seem to be a bit of build up on the diapers but nothing a few good rinses weren’t able to correct.
Rockin’ Green Detergent– When we moved last summer we discovered that the only place we could buy Wonder Wash was no longer carrying it so we began looking for an alternative. We picked up some Hard Rock made by Rockin’ Green and have been very happy with it. It works great and comes in some super yummy scents that wash clean meaning that the scent disappears. The watermelon scent is my favourite!
Are there any other cloth diaper accessories that you feel are crucial to the process?
